Unusual Deco Sapphire and Diamond Cluster Ring

This Art Deco ring is charming and unusual. The centre stone is a narrow, oval-shaped, cabouchon sapphire in a gorgeous deep blue colour. The stone measures approx. 14 x 5.5mms and is set in a collet-setting with mille-grain edging. At either side of the sapphire there are six diamonds, with one rose-cut diamond being in a collet-setting and standing out from the smaller five diamonds that are claw-set into the intricate detailing of the shoulders, with further mille-grain edging. The shoulders of the shank are slightly ridged, and tapered to match the width of the diamond-set shoulders on the crown of the ring. The shank and under-bezel are yellow, the shank is marked '18CT' to indicate that it is 18ct yellow gold, and it tests as 18ct gold. The crown of the ring is faced in a white metal which will almost certainly be platinum; it was frequent practice during the Deco period to face yellow gold jewellery with platinum, felt to show the stones off to their best. The total weight of all the diamonds in this ring is approx. 0.21cts. The overall weight of the ring is approx. 4.3gms. The ring currently fits finger size 'R'/2' (UK).
